A tragic accident is still being investigated after 40 cars were involved in a pileup late last week. The car accident caused a section of the Louisiana highway to be closed to traffic in both directions on Interstate 10 shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday.

Two people died in the accident, and 62 others were injured. The cause is still being determined, but it is believed that heavy smoke or fog contributed to the accident that one tow truck driver said was the worst accident he's ever seen.

The accident happened just outside of New Orleans' business district and involved many trucks as it is a major highway for commercial vehicles that stretches across the country. It is surprising there were not more severe injuries or more deaths because of the heavy traffic and large vehicles involved in the accident.

The highway reopened in time for the evening rush hour, but it could take days if not weeks to successfully recreate the accident to determine exactly how the assortment of vehicles crashed.

Sadly, some people involved in this accident have to suffer the loss of a loved one, or deal with potentially life changing injuries because of this accident. People involved in car accidents could have large medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.

All of these things could be considered in a personal injury claim. Dealing with insurance companies can contribute to the hassle of receiving compensation for unexpected expenses caused by the accident. Seeking the help of a Louisiana personal injury attorney might be wise in order to help you deal with the insurance companies for compensation.
